It’s not fun for anyone when their hair starts falling out. In the case of women, though, it’s particularly worrisome and damaging to their self confidence. If female hair loss is a problem for you, the first thing you need to do is find out the reasons for this condition. Only by knowing what causes the problem can you find an effective solution.
Androgenetic alopecia is a genetic problem that oftentimes leads to hair loss in women. It’s a hereditary disease that results in weakened and thinning hair in a woman. It’s a problem that can start when a woman is still relatively young, often in her teens or early twenties. The problem here is that there is no cure for this condition. You can, however, improve the situation with minoxidil, a product more commonly known as Rogaine. Regular use of this treatment can encourage the regrowth of healthier hair.
Alopecia areata is another medical condition that can lead to excessive fallout of hair. This condition usually manifests as small bald patches about the size of a coin. In rare cases it can even lead to total baldness. Fortunately, this condition can be treated. In order to make a diagnosis, you’ll need to visit a dermatologist for an examination. He or she will then recommend a course of treatment.
Other medical issues can also lead to hair loss. Thyroid disease, serious infections, high fever and even the flu can cause problems related to thinning hair. There are also a number of pharmaceutical products that list hair loss as one of their side effects. Or it could be a nutritional deficiency causing the problem. If you’re not getting enough protein in your diet, your hair will become thin and weak, causing it to break off more easily.
Excessive use of certain hair products is another contributor to female hair loss. A lot of damage is caused by the excessive use of chemical products on the hair such as dye, lighteners or straighteners, which can lead to hair loss over time. Simply avoiding the use of these products, or at least using them less frequently, can solve the problem.
Most issues involving female hair loss have to do with hair that becomes thin and fragile. However, sudden hair loss is also a problem for some women. The underlying reasons for this condition need to be examined carefully by a professional because it could signify a serious health condition.
You’ll be in a better position to deal with hair loss if you are aware of the reasons why women sometimes find their hair falling out. By simply altering the way you care for your hair each day, you might be able to solve the problem. Other times, you’ll need to visit your doctor to find out if there’s a problem that needs to be dealt with medically.
